The Bering Sea ice shelf…the coolest thing in Nome

(Pun not initially intended πŸ˜‰

The Bering Sea is starting to roil and toss and turn. Time to wake up, says Spring!

Slushy crack in the sea ice…but you can still walk out a mile or two from the shoreline (i *think* it’s still safe!)

At least there are people still driving on it:

Spring break up!

I never dreamed that this is how April would one day look!

A mile out on the Bering Sea. At 9:30 pm. The sun set over an hour later! “I like long walks on the frozen beach” haha!

  1. Daniel and I were out for a walk too! I nearly called you to see if you wanted to come over. Should’ve just done it! Nuts. Soon!!! c.

    • We are also waiting for the Kuskokwim River to thaw. There is a contest here in Bethel to see who can guess the exact time the ice cracks down to the minutes and seconds. Really fun! Your pictures of the Bering Sea are awesome. Maybe I’ll be there in August.

    • Hey Carol! I actually went out the night before, but just posted later. But I should’ve called you guys! I never really have a plan when I go out–sometimes I just look and come back home and other times I end up staying out for hours! Anyway, it would be fun to go for another walk with you guys! I miss you and the (my) family!!! πŸ™‚ <3
