4th of July in Nome Alaska

I got to come out for the 4th of July, while a locums ER doctor covered the ER shift! Unfortunately I missed the parade, but I got to see some super fun games! Nome has an all-day celebration that the whole community gets involved in. There’s nothing like small town celebrations, and it feels even more close-knit and warm in small-town, bush Alaska. 🙂

Everyone–from toddlers to the elders–got to participate! The temperature high was 50 degrees, which seems cold, but for most people here it wasn’t. For many that have gotten “used of it” (an Alaska-ism), this *is* tank top and flip-flop weather. 🙂
